Ministers re-open £60m fund to boost business skills & growth - Department for Business, Innovation and Skills
The second phase of the Growth and Innovation Fund (GIF) was launched today by Business Secretary Vince Cable and Minister for Skills John Hayes. The fund will support businesses to develop their skills solutions tailored to their own needs, transforming growth in their sector, region or supply chain.

New intellectual property court process will boost UK business
The Government today confirmed that a new small claims service will be introduced at the Patent County Court (PCC), helping small and medium-sized businesses protect their copyright, patents, trademarks and designs.

Clegg and Huhne set out government commitment to renewable – Department for Energy and Climate Change
Proposals to support renewable electricity and bring forward a surge of investment in our energy infrastructure were published by the Government today. The consultation proposes new support levels for large scale renewable electricity from 2013-17 (2014-17 for offshore wind) under the Renewables Obligation (RO).

GOVERNMENT CALLS ON UK DESIGNERS TO HELP IDENTIFY GROWTH POTENTIAL
The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills today launched a call for evidence on how the UK intellectual property system can better support our globally successful design industry. At an event hosted by the Design Council, Baroness Wilcox urged the UK's design community to gather information and data on what makes our design industry tick and what Government can do to support innovation and growth.

Sweeping intellectual property reforms to boost growth and add billions to the economy
The Government today announced plans to support economic growth by modernising UK intellectual property laws. Ministers have accepted the recommendations made in an independent review which estimate a potential benefit to the UK economy of up to £7.9 billion.

GOVERNMENT PLEDGES COMMITMENT TO DESIGN
The Government is to put design at the heart of its plans for economic growth in the UK. The commitment will be made by Universities and Science Minister David Willetts at 'Design for Growth', a high-level summit meeting of global business leaders, leading designers and Government, which is being co-hosted today by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Design Council.

UK CLAMPS DOWN ON CORRUPTION WITH NEW BRIBERY ACT
The UK will reinforce its reputation as a leader in the global fight against corruption when the Bribery Act comes into force on July 1, Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke announced today.
The Act will ensure the UK is at the forefront of the battle against bribery, allowing the country to clamp down on corruption without being burdensome to business. Guidance on the safeguards businesses can put in place to prevent bribery has been published today, following in-depth consultation with non-governmental organisations and business.

GOVERNMENT BINS BUSINESS RED TAPE
Business will be freed from the burden of red tape under a package of sweeping reforms to regulation, it was announced today.
In a speech to the Federation of Small Businesses in Liverpool, Mark Prisk revealed Business Secretary Vince Cable’s plans for a range of measures to be included in the Growth Review that will allow businesses to grow.

£100M INVESTMENT IN SKILLS TO DRIVE GROWTH
Growth and Innovation Fund will boost investment in training and help businesses grow
Secretary of State for Business, Vince Cable, and Minister for Skills, John Hayes, today launched a £50 million a year fund to help businesses develop the skills they need to drive growth. The Growth and Innovation Fund (GIF) will deliver targeted help for employer groups to overcome barriers to growth within their sectors and industries. The funding could deliver new training to boost innovation and productivity, enable industries to set new professional standards, or support new or extended National Skills Academies.
